Mary Kom Lost 2 Kgs In 4 Hours To Avoid Disqualification From Tournament, Went On To Win Gold

Five-time world boxing champ and Olympic medallist M C Mary Kom is as great as they come. Magnificent Mary, as she has been nicknamed, has already won her third gold for the country this year at the 13th Silesian Open Boxing Tournament in Poland.

But here’s an interesting story about a rather Herculean feat that the 35-year-old Mary Kom managed to pull off right before the tournament.

In a mere four hours, Mary Kom managed to shed 2 kg to qualify for the 48-kilo category before the weigh-in!

According to New Indian Express, Kom was a few kilograms above the requisite 48 kg qualifying weight

When a jet-lagged Mary Kom landed in Poland at 3.30 am, she had roughly 4 hours to shed off those extra kilos before the general weigh-in at 7.30 am.

If she wouldn’t have been able to do it, she would be disqualified for being overweight and would have to return home.

So then, what did Mary Kom do? Well, trust Magnificent Mary to never back down and employ that true sportsman spirit to go for gold!

Now let me warn you, what Mary managed to do was no easy feat, and definitely not something any regular person can pull off. But she did use something very simple to get it done—skipping!

What? Skipping? Sounds unbelievable, doesn’t it? But it’s true and Mary revealed it herself!

Turns out, She began skipping, doing it for an hour, and then moved on to some stretching. And voilà! It worked!

She managed to lose those extra kilos and fit right into her weight category! What’s more, she even went on to win gold for the country in the tournament.

Here’s saluting this iron woman and her incessant attitude to do her best and make her country proud! Never back down, Mary Kom! You are amazing!
