Planning To Watch ‘Manikarnika’ This Weekend? Read These 15 Tweets Before Booking Your Tickets

Ever since I was a kid, I loved waking up early and watching the Republic Day parade on TV. It put a visual to what I’d read in school textbooks about India’s history. This 26th January, there’s another facet of independence being showcased in the form of the movie Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. Kangana Ranaut plays the warrior queen who was a critical part of The Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the British East India Company.

Manikarnika’s teaser was well received and raised everyone’s expectations for the film. There were some bumps along the way courtesy Karni Sena but the film has hit the theatres today. So, what’s the verdict? Did Kangana’s directorial debut please the audience? Here’s the summary in 15 tweets. Have a look.

Rani Lakshmibai is a symbol of valour and courage and most people thought the film did complete justice to her heroic story. The war scenes were powerful enough to stir emotions and leave the audience speechless. A few even predicted that Kangana is a sure shot winner for a National Award.

As with all movies, there were some who weren’t impressed. The main point of contention was the lead actress’ dialogue delivery. A few felt it was melodramatic. The first half was slower than expected which didn’t go down so well with Bollywood buffs.

All in all, the film did manage to portray the power and grandeur of that era by showing a glimpse of India’s revolt. The battles, the sacrifices and the heroes.
