Moral policing is at its new avatar in Mangalore. Adding to that, there might be a hint of communalism in the act.
A Muslim man was stripped, tied to a pole and he was beaten for more than an hour for allegedly talking to a Hindu woman.
The man works in an accessories store in Mangalore as a Manager. The woman works in the same store as a Salesgirl.
Details of the incident:
1. Apparently, the woman had taken a loan of Rs. 2000/- from the man. They were on the way to the ATM when a gang of men accosted them and beat the man. He was also stripped down.
2. Policemen reached the spot where this happened as various news channels hoarded the place.
3. The woman in question was slapped.

Who was behind the attacks?
Radical extremist groups flocked at the spot when this incident happened. Bajrang Dal activists had beaten up the man. Groups like Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sene, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and the Islamist group, Popular Front of India are reported to be in a majority in various places in Mangalore.
Was different religions the only issue?
Maybe not.
Sanjay Dixit, an IAS Officer tweeted about this horrendous incident. Here is his tweet:
Reprehensible. Nothing less. Mangalore seems to have become a place for horrors https://t.co/3RDusKIs3Y

Was this justified? First of all, was this type of moral policing the only way out? Or was there a hint of communalism too?
Resorting to such vociferous acts shouldn’t be the answer. Let the police investigations reveal the truth and verify the veracity of this act and the reason behind it.
