While the country is striving towards creating more opportunities for women, a vast majority of them are dependent on the male members of the family for basic necessities. The traditional conservatism towards women is nowhere close to lessen and in various parts of the country, women face emotional and physical abuse on a daily basis.
Recently a case has been reported in Noida wherein a man allegedly thrashed and gave his wife ‘triple talaq’ after she asked a mere Rs. 30 to buy vegetables.
According to sources, 30-year-old Zainab living in Dadri, Noida, had been subject to torture by her in-laws ever since she got married. Once she was beaten severely because she refused to give up her gold earrings to her mother-in-law.
However, last Saturday, when Zainab asked her husband for money to buy vegetables, he along with his two brothers, a sister, and mother started bashing her. They allegedly also gave her electric shocks using a wire. And finally, the husband gave her ‘triple talaq’, spat on her face, and drove her out of the house.
Zainab sought her brother’s help and her family took her to a nearby hospital for treatment and filed a complaint against her in-laws.
A case has been lodged against the husband and four other of his family members and they have been booked under sections 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
Horrible how women are treated so inhumanely in most parts of the country. What’s worse is that the plight of many such women is not even heard.
