Mallika Dua Opens Up About Losing Both Parents, Reveals People Said ‘Nazar Lag Gayi Hai’

Life is unpredictable. At one moment you’re living your best life with the people you love and on the other, your life becomes hollow and empty with their absence. For artist Mallika Dua, this year proved to be the toughest one.

Back in June this year, the acclaimed comedian lost her mom, Chinna Dua, a renowned radiologist, singer, saree enthusiast, and social media personality. She succumbed to covid related complications.

While Mallika was trying to recover from the grief and celebrate the beautiful life her mom lived, she got another shocker. Mallika’s dad, a renowned journalist Vinod Dua, breathed his last earlier this month. Both Chinna and Vinod Dua tested positive for COVID-19 in May and were undergoing treatment in Gurugram.

It would be difficult to look at the positives when both your parents leave you for their heavenly abode in a matter of months. However, Mallika maintained her sanity and decided to recognize the lineage given to her by her parents and derive strength from their happy moments. She turned to comedy to recover from the emptiness.

But even at such tragic times, people decided to give their unsolicited advice to her and came up with vague theories after the demise of the actor’s parents. Taking to Instagram, Mallika penned that she was told that ‘nazar lag gayi hai’.

“Once again, turning to humor to give a voice to my emptiness. Thank you for sending so much love and hope. Some try to tell me ki nazar lag gayi hummein logon ki (People have cast an evil eye on us). I will never ever fall prey to that. If anything, it’s just pure love and blessings. Log nahin hote toh hum bhi nahin hote. As papaji would say, ‘Nazar laga ki dikhaye koi BC’.”

She further elaborated that her life is ruined, “Human life is a small small part of our journeys. Everyone must go.”

“I hope I am able to live a tiny fraction of the life my angels lived. I doubt it but maybe they will conspire to make it happen as they always did. In the evergreen words of my friend Sunil Grover, Jindagi barbad ho geeya.”

Talking about her parents, the ‘Hindi Medium’ actor wrote, “My parents were walking talking hearts. No such thing as nazar when you yourself are the entire universe.”

Concluding her post she wrote that she’s feeling empty. “It has taken me an hour to type just this because I feel empty. Hollowed out. Whatever I was made of has been taken out of me. I know it’s temporary. It won’t’ last forever. Nothing does.”

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. And we know you’re the bravest and strongest baccha of your mummji and papaji. Sending you strength, Mallika.
