Woman Who Got Married At 17 Turns Her Life Around & Becomes Gold-Winning Powerlifter

In India, while the legal age for marriage is set at 18 for girls and 21 for boys, instances of underage marriages are not uncommon. One such case is that of a woman named Chanda Basfort and her story caught the attention of several people online after a video of hers went viral. Despite marrying at the tender age of 17, Chanda defied societal norms by embarking on an unconventional journey.

After she cleared her class-10 exams at the age of 15, her parents didn’t want her to study any further. They got her married to a man named Ravi. By the time she was 18 years old, she gave birth to a son. Despite being happy about being a mother, she was distressed because she had become terribly unfit.

She had gained a lot of postpartum weight and it got to a point where people started to openly criticise her. That’s when her husband suggested that she should join the gym, and she did.

She could see the difference in front of the mirror. She had lost a lot of body fat and gained lean muscle. She had become physically and mentally strong. But it just wasn’t enough for her. She wanted to take things up a notch. That’s when she began powerlifting and later became a competing powerlifter.
