A restaurant chain called ‘Temple City’ based in Madurai, Tamil Nadu has found a unique way to create much-needed awareness around COVID-19. Living up to their love for parottas, they created ones that were shaped like masks we use to contain the spread of coronavirus. Thus, a new “mask parotta” was created. See the pictures below:-
The owner of the restaurant chain, which is one of the biggest chains in the city is K.L. Kumar. He said that they conceived the idea on the morning of 7th July and quickly executed the idea to bring it into the market that very afternoon, reports The Hindu. “The aim was to make people realize the need to wear masks in public places so as to reduce the spread of the infection,” he says.
As per reports, the restaurant opened briefly as soon as the lockdown rules were eased in their district. But the staff often found themselves requesting their customers and visitors to precaution and wear masks. “When they walked into the restaurant without wearing a mask at that time, we gave them one for free. We are still handing them out for those who come to pick up deliveries,” he says.

Reportedly, the restaurant’s parotta master behind this creation, S. Satish used the traditional veechu parotta to replicate the design of the surgical masks that we use. “We folded it in a particular way and crafted the handles. All the ingredients are the same. It was a success on our very first try,” he said.
“Not many in Madurai wear masks but everybody here loves parotta. We just put two and two together,” he concludes. The concept has garnered a lot of interest, especially among children. Currently, a set of two mask parottas has been priced at ₹50.
As per this Twitter user, who is a reporter at The Hindu, this isn’t the first time the restaurant has amazed everyone with their creativity. Their previous creations include “Tendulkar Dosai” shaped like a bat and also a “Baba paneer masala dosai”.
