Many of us have heard about the “compromising offers” in the entertainment industry. The trade of talent not only negatively affects the artist but also cripples the showbiz industry from within. Bollywood stars like Ranveer Singh and Radhika Apte have earlier spoken about their horrifying casting couch experiences.
Recently, Actor Maanvi Gagroo spoke about how she was propositioned by a producer. The actor said she was asked to ‘compromise’ in exchange for a bigger budget for a web series, reports Hindustan Times.
She had received a call from a man about a new project. “A year ago, I got a call from a random unknown number. They were like we’re doing a web series and we wanted to cast you,” the actor said.
The man then went on to inform her about the budget for the project. To which the actor replied,
“Nai nai yaar, this is too less and why are we talking about the budget? Tell me the script, only if I’m interested and you are interested in roping me, we can discuss about money, dates and all.”
The stranger on the call told her that they were getting the budget approved by the actors. However, when Maanvi told him the budget is less, he instantly tripled the budget. He said,
“I can give you this much also, but aapko ‘compro’ (compromise) karna padega.”
Maanvi was appalled to hear his words.
“This words ‘compro’, ‘compromise’ I was hearing after 7, 8 years. Suddenly I don’t know what triggered me, I started abusing him. Told him ‘aap phone rakho, how dare you? Mai police ko complaint kar rahi hu. I was really mad because in this pro imposed #MeToo era, I was baffled at how things like this still happen,” she said.
Casting couch is a disgusting practice. Thank God for people like Maanvi who won’t bow down to such regressive practices. We need more people like her!
