Kerala Woman Asks For ₹500 From Son’s School Teacher, Gets ₹51 Lakhs Assistance In Return

A 46-year-old woman named Subhadra hails from the suburbs of Palakkad district in Kerala. She has 3 sons, one of whom suffers from cerebral palsy. Amongst the other two, the elder one named Abhin is currently pursuing a technical course while the younger one named Abhishek is in class 8 at a school named Vattenad Government Vocational Higher Secondary School.

Subhadra’s husband used to work menial jobs and earn money to feed his family. However, in August, he passed away and she was left to fend for the entire family. They had been facing a dire financial crisis off late where Subhadra was unable to buy food for her family anymore as she had no money left.

According to Deccan Herald, there was one teacher working in Abhishek’s school who used to enquire about his family every now and then. Subhadra called her one day and sought help. She asked her for Rs 500 so she could buy food for her 3 sons. Moved by her plight, the teacher named Girija Harikumar, who teaches Hindi, gave her Rs 1000 – double the amount she had asked for.

“I was really moved when Subhadra said that there was nothing for the children to eat at home. The condition at her home was really pitiable. Even the tiled roof used to leak in rain. Subhadra had no source of income, except for the meagre government assistance for her bed-ridden son,” Girija said.

But that’s not all. Girija wanted a long-term solution to the family’s financial crisis. So, she sought help online and asked her friends and philanthropists to donate. She also shared Subhadra’s bank account details. Within just 2-3 days, Subhadra’s bank account was credited with money donated by several people.

The total monetary assistance she received went up to Rs 51 lakhs!

Thanks to Girija’s gesture and the good people of the internet, Subhadra and her sons will now be able to see better days. 🙂
