Karan Johar has been one of the most successful directors in the Indian film industry. His movies have always had the biggest of stars, larger than life story lines and some of the most extravagant openings. However, the happiness and excitement depicted in his films may have been far from the reality he faced off the sets.
In a recent interview, Karan Johar opens up about his anxieties, insecurities and the phase of depression in his life.Â
1. He talked about his anxieties regarding not having someone to share the joys of life with.
2. He went through a phase of depression in which he had a panic attack so severe, he felt like he was going into a cardiac arrest.
3. He described the emptiness that he felt when he was going through depression.Â
4. He even spoke about some sensitive issues that were still affecting him at the back of his mind.
5. He genuinely felt anxious about not finding a life partner and missed the presence of love in his life.
6. He impressed upon the point that depression was a real disease and felt that his father may have been suffering from it. However, at that time, no such diagnosis was ever conducted.
7. He urged everyone to understand that even the seemingly happiest person around you could be a victim of depression.
8. He recollected the pain he went through and felt that depression was the darkest time of his life.
9. The emotional state he was in made him want to get away from everything and be left alone.Â
10. He said that it was his medication that really helped him survive such a terrible phase of his life.
11. Now, he has emerged victorious in the battle against his depression and his new found energy is evident in the trailer of his latest film.Â
Depression is a serious disease and must not be taken lightly. We really appreciate Karan Johar for speaking so openly about his personal experience dealing with the disease, and hope his journey serves as an inspiration to all.
