It’s a day to celebrate. The Indian women’s hockey team has defeated Australia 1-0 in the first of three Test matches in Melbourne. Ranking twelfth in the world ladder, the win is most timely and is the best start the Indian team could have had!
After an idle first quarter, the match saw a second-quarter goal by Indian captain Rani Rampal that helped built pressure on the Hockeyroos and ultimately resulted in a win.
India’s goalkeeper Rajani Etimmarpu was also at her best. She significantly helped keep the defence tight with her smart footwork and gave India the lead it needed.
