The recent incidents of gun violence in Trump’s ‘Great America’ are not only concerning but also scary. And the recent blow, the horrifying mass-shooting in a Florida school is the final nail in the coffin as it is the attack marks the 18th school shooting of 2018.

It is hard to believe that over 17 people were killed and 15 injured after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz–who was a former student and was expelled from the school for “disciplinary reasons”–opened fire in a school. It is hard to believe that we in today’s age and time even kids are not safe in school.

But while the entire town, country and the world is mourning the loss of the innocent students and marching for gun control, they are also being inspired by the selfless acts of courage of many, at the same time.

And amidst all heroes, there was an Indian-American teacher who followed her hunch and saved many lives.

According to Times of India, Shanthi Vishwanathan shut the doors to her algebra classroom and made the students crouch on the floor even when the second fire alarm of the day went off at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High.

The maths teacher who was called ‘Mrs V’ fondly by her students even also covered the window of the class door with paper, keeping them out of the reach and sight of the gunman.

Not just that. She even took on the SWAT.

Reportedly, she refused to open the door even when the SWAT teams knocked, fearing the killer was masquerading as the police. A mother of a survivor said,

“She said, ‘Knock it down or open it with a key. I’m not opening the door.’

Later a SWAT guy took out the window and cleared the room.

Yes, we the void is irreparable and those kids will never return to their families but if it weren’t for Vishwanathan many more kids would have been gunned down.
