Spain Tops “World’s Healthiest Countries” List, India’s Rank Is Disappointing

Despite being one of the top developing countries in the world, India had successfully earned an ‘alarming’ rank in the latest Corruption Perceptions Index released by Berlin-based think-tank Transparency International, last month. Out of the 180 countries evaluated, our country was placed at the 78th spot, which meant that there were 77 countries with better and cleaner management than India.

If that wasn’t disappointing enough, we have some news for you. Come February, and India has once again failed to impress, this time in the list of the world’s healthiest countries.

Out of the 169 countries that were taken into consideration, India ranked a bitter 120, which is one bad from its rank of 119 in 2017.

According to TOI, the list has been made by Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index which takes into account, the factors that contribute to overall health such as morality by communicable and non-communicable diseases and life expectancy.

It is to be noted that Asian countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh have fared better than India in the rankings. While Sri Lanka grabbed a respectable rank of 66, Bangladesh and Nepal were placed at 91 and 110 respectively.

As far as the toppers are concerned, Spain and Italy took the number one and two spots in the rankings. The United States of America got the 35th place while China had to settle for the 52nd.

In the countries which have managed to grab the topmost positions, 70% of their healthcare spendings are taken care of by the government.

The rankings definitely come as a reality check for our country and we have a very long way to go.
