I remember being warned several times by my grandparents about how unhygienic roadside food stalls can be as a kid. However, I never took them seriously and went on to treat myself with the occasional panipuri from unknown sellers.
However, seeing a panipuri seller allegedly peeing inside a plastic mug and adding it to khatta paani has shaken me to my core. According to Zee News, in a video that was reportedly shot in Guwahati, a panipuri seller is seen pulling out a mug from under his apron, which was supposedly held near his pant’s zip, and adding the water to the khatta paani container, while throwing the rest away. Mamun Khan, the Twitter user who shared the video, claimed that the seller mixed his urine with the water and was arrested. As the video went viral, several people expressed their disgust at the incident. Have a look:
