Govinda Talks About Fallout With David Dhawan, Says Even Varun Won’t Do 17 Films With Him

In Bollywood’s history, David Dhawan and Govinda have been one inseparable and the best actor-director duo. Having done a totally of 17 films together, the two delivered some of the most memorable films the Hindi film industry had to offer. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Coolie No. 1, Partner, and others have been back to back hits.

Hence, it was shocking when the two had a fallout but it was never made apparent why. In the past, neither of the two went on record to state what was wrong. But they never ended up working together again, making their fans curious as to what had happened.

However, years later, Govinda has now come out in the open to narrate what went wrong between the two. In his latest appearance in Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat, Govinda had a lot to say about the fallout.

On being asked about why hasn’t he been working with David Dhawan, the actor said:

“David will be in the position to ask me this question only when his son does as many as 17 films with him. I don’t think even his son will do 17 movies with him. Because he is David Dhawan’s son and he’s educated. I didn’t even know the meaning of doing that many movies with an actor. I was only told by Sanjay Dutt that he’s a Punjabi and he’s to meet me. That time I used to provide work to a lot of Punjabis with me. So he came, and I liked him and thought, I could come up with a lot of hit films with him.”

Govinda revealed that the cold-war and silent-treatment started between the two due to the movie Chasme Badoor.

“I don’t know what he was expecting but when I narrated him the concept of ‘Chashme Badoor’, he started doing the film with Rishi Kapoor without even involving me. When my secretary was in conversation with him, I had asked my secretary to keep the phone on speaker, and that’s when I heard him saying, ‘Chi Chi has started questioning way too much. I don’t want to work with him anymore. Ask him to do any small role that he gets. I was very hurt by what he had said.”

He went on to say, “I did not even treat my relatives the way I treated him. Even my brother is a director but I haven’t done 17 films with him.”

If the two hadn’t had a fallout, we would have had many more fun films to watch. But alas, nothing lasts forever!
