Golden Retriever Nurses & Takes Care Of African Wild Puppies Alongside Her Own Inside Zoo

Golden Retrievers are best known for being family dogs. They are loyal, incredibly loving, protective, cute, great with babies, and have an overall angelic aura about them. However, Golden Retrievers have remarkable maternal instincts as well. They have the ability to not only nurture their own offspring but also those of others – human or animal. Here’s a beautiful example.

Kassy, a Golden Retriever, had given birth and was at Potawatomi Zoo in Indiana, United States, so officials could take care of her and the puppies. In the same zoo was a trio of endangered African wild dog puppies called Blue, Red and Orange. Their biological parents were incapable of raising them successfully, reported India Today.

Kassy arrived at the zoo with her litter a day after the African dogs were born. She was naturally drawn to the pups as her maternal instincts took over. She embraced them, nursed and nurtured them alongside her own offspring. The pups were able to survive the first critical month because of Kassy alone. They are now healthy and a little bigger!

Kassy has now gone back home and all her puppies were adopted by loving families. This story was shared on social media by Potawatomi’s Zoo’s official handle. Have a look:
