The Internet Is Losing Its Mind Over These Colourful Corns That Look Like Gorgeous Gemstones

We love beautiful food, right? I mean, cmon, if we didn’t, Instagram would’ve long since been out of business. Honestly, in the age of Instagram and Snapchat; presentation is everything. We’ve seen beautiful flower gelato and been amazed by real-life goblets of fire. However, have you ever seen brilliantly coloured, glossy glass gem corn?

This particular variety of corn was developed by Carl Barnes, a farmer in Oklahoma. It’s an all-natural vegetable and is a product of crossing numerous traditional corn strains with one another. People from around the world are posting pictures of their own harvests of this magnificent-looking corn.

Here are some of the best pictures:

1. Check out those brilliant reds.

2. Look like marbles, don’t they?

Glass Gem Corn // Translucent kernels really do shine brilliantly like strands of glass beads! The 3-8" ears can be decorative or edible. Makes firm little morsels when popped; can also be parched, ground into meal. Originally bred from a number of Native varieties by Carl "White Eagle" Barnes, the famous Cherokee corn collector to whom we owe our gratitude for his life's work of collecting, preserving and sharing so many Native corn varieties. I was gifted a handful of seeds from Native Seeds/SEARCH and thrilled to have grown out a productive crop to share in our 2017 Appleton Seed Library drawers. Do you have a seed story to share? Are you growing seeds from years saved on a family member's property? Do you want to be involved in an experience like this? Reach out, we need to hear from you! #glassgemcorn #appletonseedlibrary #growyourown #seedsaver #nativeamericanseed #aslibrary #heirloomseed #nodapl #nativeseedsearch #seedsaving

14. Correction. Level >10,000!

15. Nature never fails to surprise, does it?

The corn tastes no different from regular corn but in the end, it’s all about presentation, isn’t it?
