After many years of studying, preparing yourself for the real world and competing with hundreds of other contenders, you land a job. Now, it may be your dream job or just something temporary until you get there, but the memory of getting your first paycheck (salary) will always have a special place in your heart.
A Quora thread asked people about the first thing(s) they bought with their first paycheck and people came up with some really amazing answers. Some funny and some sweet, here are the best stories that we have compiled.
1. One for the memoriesÂ
Gabrielle Harbowy‘s bank allowed to send a picture of the first paycheck she received to cash it. So she cashed her check through the picture and framed the original for memories.
2. ‘Cause food > everything else
Jeff Darcy was not in a sound financial condition when he received his first salary. A nice meal was perhaps the best thing he could have bought for himself.

Clifford D’souza showed how money can buy happiness by making her mother proud.

Simon Crump used his student grant (the British government used to pay students money to cover their fee and expenses in the ’80s) for buying a fretless bass guitar. So, he had to loan money from different sources to make ends meet and his first salary pretty much got used up in paying those debts.

Sukanta Maikap, like everyone else in their childhood, loved the adventures of Tintin. So he bought a pretty cool gift I’d say.
8. Giving it back
This anonymous writer probably did what most of us wouldn’t even think of. Wikipedia has definitely helped a lot of people during their studies and returning the favour with your first salary is certainly a good way of giving it back.
9. For mom’s smile
Prudhvi Raju too made his mother happy with his first salary which he received for a day of lecture. According to him, it has been six years since the incident and his proud mother still wears the same watch.
