School Crowns Their 1st Lesbian Couple As The Prom King And Queen And Makes History!

It definitely is 2017 when we open up to not just to talk about but accept a person’s sexuality with open arms.

Earlier this year, we saw many wonderful, happy faces at Pride parade in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Lucknow. People who opened up about their sexuality and were supported by many around our country. While the road to legalise gay marriage in India is a tough one, the destination is not cloudy at all, at this point.

While the waves from the western shores hit us and inspire us to accept all, another powerful incident happened and it’s worthy of your time.

Florida just got it’s first lesbian prom king and prom queen in Lindsey Creel, 18 and Brie Grimes, 17! Aren’t they just adorable!

Lindsey on the left, is the prom King and Brie, on the right is the prom Queen of their school!

Brie and Lindsey from Leon High School, Tallahasse, Florida made history! They celebrated their 3 year anniversary this year in February. They met during the first year of their high school. Brie talks about the prom night and says –

“Prom night was so much fun – we literally danced the night away. We didn’t expect to win considering the people we were up against.”

Brie says that once she met Lindsey, she became her go to person. Lindsey confesses that for her, it was love at first sight. Brie says that she was apprehensive of how people would react to her sexuality, especially her family. She also knew that she couldn’t let go of Lindsey. She says –

“I knew I had feelings for her but everything was so hard because I didn’t know how everyone would react and I was scared of how I would be treated and how my family would react.
Lindsey and I talked about it and from that conversation I knew I was at home when I was with her and that I couldn’t let her go.

Brie says that what they have is so special that she wouldn’t give it up for
anything. She was also very thankful to the LGBTQ community at school, who supported them.

“I always felt accepted at our high school. My family was not accepting nor supporting at first, but after about a year they came around.”

Doesn’t that just totally melt your heart. This is a wonderful step, it will inspire a lot of teenagers who are scared to come of the closet. Also, if a school decides to take such a powerful step, parents will also become aware and be open to accept their kids, as they are.

Congratulations Brie and Lindsey! I don’t need to tell you, but you make an adorable couple!
