Contrary to popular opinion, age should not be a barrier to physical exercise, especially for individuals in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. In fact, regular physical activity can be extremely beneficial for the elderly, developing their overall well-being and quality of life. We have come across numerous individuals who, even in their 80s and 90s, have continued to make time for physical activity. Some even hit the gym and pumped iron!
Such an example is Mr LC Amarnathan who is an 80-year-old retired IPS officer. Arun Bothra, a popular IPS officer who is incredibly active on social media, shared pictures of him working out in the gym.
From dumbbells to barbells, Mr Amarnathan doesn’t back down and looks immensely fit!
“This is what inspiration looked like today morning,” IPS Bothra wrote.

Sir , Age is never a barrier to start
In a country like India mediocrity is a norm so when you see examples like this elderly gentleman we think this is an exception.
The only place one has to stay permanently is the body, so let us all respect, worship and love it.— Shajan Samuel (@IamShajanSamuel) January 3, 2024
We all should strive to be that fit and healthy. Its actual re-tire, tire with workout post retirement.

No matter what your age, there’s no one ‘right’ exercise program that will suit everyone. It all depends on your body, what you’re capable of and what you enjoy doing.

In case you didn’t know, exercise helps maintain muscle mass, bone density, and joint flexibility, contributing to improved mobility and balance – which is very important for elderly people. In addition to that, it helps in managing chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Age is indeed just a number and staying active can be a key ingredient to a vibrant and fulfilling life.
