Over the past few years, we have heard an increasing number of bans coming from the government. From beef ban to banning porn in India, it seems like we have more and more restrictions on us.
Well, to everyone’s delight we have one more. Whoopie!
BJP ruled civic body in Delhi has proposed that non-vegetarian food displayed in eateries in South Delhi would soon be prohibited. They said that it would be done for ‘hygiene’ and ‘sentimental’ reasons.
This resolution has been approved in the last house of the BJP-ruled South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). According to Hindustan Times, it will come for final confirmation at the next meeting of the body on January 3.
The leader of the house, Shikha Rai, who approved the proposal said that it came from members of the health committee. The proposal states,
“If restaurant owners are found displaying non-vegetarian items in public, action against them should be taken as per the municipal law.”
Shikha Rai also said, “It has been observed that shops displaying non-veg outside their premises attracts dogs and raise hygiene issue. Besides, it is also about hurting the sentiments of people who are vegetarian.”
Twitter has obviously a lot to say on the matter. They are calling out the government for its blatant “fundamentalism”.
1. Yeah, that’s where we’re headed!
Why ban only the display. Why not ban the food altogether.

2. Probably!
Because there will be no place for BJP leaders to go & have Non Veg after getting drunk hence no ban.

3. There’s a pattern here, isn’t there?
Ban ban and ban that's what we are hearing from the time BJP has come to power at the center

4. The end is near.
Very subversive. Mark this as the beginning of the end.

5. That is true, Delhites do have a deep love for their food.
This is when Fundamentalism Peaks. 😡😡😡
Delhi is known for its rich Mughlai Cuisine and other Non-Veg dishes which date back to centuries! Delhi started the culture of Open Street Food including Chat!
People of Delhi LIVE their Food! https://t.co/UjpMom9TPP

6. Absolutely.
Lol hygiene is affected only by non veg foods on the streets and if public sentiments are being affected by looking at food then those sentiments aren’t strong enough…

7. Where are we headed?
Put a ban on living itself !
— Shalini (@watdehel) December 28, 2017
8. Is this a wake-up call?
This is too dangerous and taking different directions. One day they will ask separate road / street for Hindus for sentimental religious reason. We need to remove these kind of sentimental mentals from the society
— Sethu (@Sethuppathi) December 28, 2017
9. Uhh. How many hardcore non-veg lovers agree!?
Paneer displayed on the streets, hurt my sentiments. What about that!?
— Anandita Malhotra (@theopengates) December 28, 2017
10. I don’t understand why we can’t live and let live?
Time for non-vegetarians to demand a ban on naked show of fruits and vegetables across the country, after all we are the majority https://t.co/7jWP1qYTVC

11. Is that the benchmark?
Now North Koreans have more freedom than us

12. Where is the democracy that we know and love?
What kind of a rubbish authoritarian society are we becoming? This totalitarianism has to be stopped!#RubBJPishhttps://t.co/EKqUfV1vIj

On behalf of being a former Delhite, I know we love our food. And our street food and street eating culture is something we hold very dear to us. I hope the civic body considers all this before taking their final decision next year.
