Tourists Get Arrested In Cambodia For “Singing And Dancing Pornographically”

Go into a club anywhere, you’ll see people grinding and twerking. And you know what, it’s okay. As long as you’re confident with your body and your moves, I don’t think it’s anyone’s business to police you.

But, apparently not.

These 10 tourists in Cambodia could face up to a year in a Cambodian prison after they were arrested for “dancing pornographically”.

Yes, apparently the dancing was too vulgar for the country.

This happened after Cambodian officials raided a party in Siem Reap, near the Angkor Wat temple, the country’s most visited tourist attraction.

Most of the tourists were from Europe, two from Canada and one was a New Zealander. They were charged with “producing pornographic pictures” by the cops.

According to The Telegraph, the police had arrested 77 tourists who were taken to the local police headquarters to be “educated”. While most were released, 10 so-called organisers have been detained.

The police released pictures of the group at a party involving young adults simulating sexual positions at a party. However, some say that these photographs were from a different party. The group protested their innocence, saying,

“We’re innocent. We don’t know why we’ve been arrested – we’re getting different stories from different people.”

They added, “It was really confusing. Everyone was confused. They raided, rounded us up – there was about 80 to 100 people at this party, some of them were tourists. There were about 30 of them [police officers.]”

The people detained also said that they were at a villa party barbeque on Thursday at 4 P.M. when police began plucking people from the crowd.

The prosecutor on the case has also made it very clear that producing pornography is contrary to Cambodian traditions.

Tweeple have varied reactions to the incident. While some say that the arrest was uncalled for, others believe that traditions must be followed wherever one goes.

The tourists face up to a year in prison and could spend up to six months in detention as they await trial.

What do you think, should the tourists be allowed to do whatever they want at a private party behind closed doors? Or was the police correct for upholding the morals of the country?
