Examination! A word that many of us dread. While I struggle to score just passing marks, there are people out there who love appearing for exams. And then, there are few brilliant minds whose stories are nothing short of inspirational. Like, Pranjal Patil who is India’s first visually impaired woman IAS officer or a 105-year-old grandmother who is trying to complete her education. People like them motivate you to work harder each day.

Recently, a bus conductor cleared the UPSC examination. Madhu NC, who works for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation(BMTC), cleared the Mains for the civil service exams, reports Navbharat Times. He was very happy when he passed the exam as he is the first in his family to ever go to school.

“My parents don’t know what exams I have cleared but are very happy for me. I am the first one to be educated in my family,” Madhu was quoted saying by Banglore Mirror.

Madhu, who wears the khaki uniform and works for eight hours a day, started working as a conductor at the age of 19. He completed his graduation through distance learning and earned a Masters in Political Science degree later. He gave his Prelims for UPSC in Kannada last year and opted for the English language for his Mains.

He chose Political Science & International Relations as optional subjects and studied diligently for five hours every day to prepare for the test. He would wake up at 4 in the morning to complete his studies before going to work. And, instead of opting for coaching classes, he studied on his own with the help of his seniors from BMTC.

His present boss, C Shikha, the managing director of BMTC has been helping him to prepare for his interview after he cleared the Mains. “She has always been very supportive and has guided me on how to write the exam. Now she is preparing me for the interview,” Madhu was quoted saying.

The 29-year-old conductor is now preparing for his interview and might give up his current job if he clears the question-answer round. He plans to become an IAS officer in the future. All the best Madhu! We are sure all your hard work will pay off.
