The world might have never felt the urgency to reuse and recycle like it is now, but there are some who smelt it long ago. And maybe that is what prompted these Buddhist monks to go against the rules and build something extraordinary.
Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew is a Buddhist temple in the Khun Han district of Sisaket province in Thailand, which is made completely out of beer bottles.
In case you did not know, drinking is a sin in Buddhism but that did not stop them from using the bottles to put up this incredible piece of creativity.
The temple is made up of a mix of 1 million green Heineken and brown local Chang beer bottles and completely justifies its name which translates to ‘Wilderness Temple Of The Great Glass’.
It is believed that 30 years ago, the monks, who were tired of the increasing amount of litter in the sea, asked the people to bring them empty bottles of beers which they used to construct the temple.
Apart from the temple, a crematorium, water towers, sleeping quarters and toilets have also been built using the bottles and they plan to build much more.
We bow down to the creativity and hard work of the people who built this temple. Art is definitely the winner, here.
