J.P. Dutta’s seminal classic ‘Border’ was and still continues to be one of the most patriotic movies Bollywood has ever produced. It put all the politics aside to focus on the soldiers on the forefront and how the war effected them and their family. And all that was aptly captured by the Javed Akhtar-written song, “Sandese Aate Hain”.
Roop Kumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam beautifully conveyed the haunting nature of the song, and went onto win many accolades. Akhtar won the Filmfare, Screen and the National Film Award for his lyrics. But now it has gained another level of significance after being sung by a BSF Jawan.
While sitting in what looks to be a canteen, the BSF Jawan broke into a rendition of ‘Sandese Aate Hain’. And for two whole minutes, he entranced the audience in there with his soulful voice.
मैं एक दिन आऊंगा……जय हिंद🇮🇳

Before going viral on Twitter, the video had surfaced on YouTube first. And while the BSF jawan’s melodious voice has already garnered a lot of fans, at the time of writing this article, his identity is a mystery.
Twitter was mesmerised by the BSF Jawan’s take on “Sandese Aate Hai” and saluted him for his job and his voice.
Wah!

One of the intentions behind making “Sandese Aate Hain” was to give soldiers a song that they can sing in their bunkers. And although the location is not a bunker, it’s being sung by a soldier who relates with every word of the song, thereby giving it an added touch of poignancy. So, what are your thoughts on this iteration of the famous number? Let us know in the comments.
