In the midst of wedding season, your closet is probably full of festive finery and your tummy full of sinful food. Yet, one very unique wedding in Kolkata took the chance to offer their guests some very special memories.
For starters, it was conducted by female pandits who beautifully performed all the rituals. However, in a dramatic turn, the bride’s father refused to do kanyadaan. But there was only bliss and joy in store for the happy couple.
The father said he wouldn’t give away the bride because his daughter is “not property to give away.” What a radical thought! All this was shared in a post by Twitter user Asmita Ghosh. Asmita also shared a picture of the pandits – one of whom was identified by Twitter users as Kolkata’s woman priest Nandini Bhowmik, reports NDTV.
See for yourself!
I'm at a wedding with female pandits. They introduce the bride as the daughter of <mother's name> and <father's name> (mom first!!!). The bride's dad gave a speech saying he wasn't doing kanyadaan because his daughter wasn't property to give away. 🔥🔥🔥 I'm so impressed. pic.twitter.com/JXqHdbap9D

Here’s how Twitterati reacted to the post!
That's incredible and what a brilliant thing to read first thing! Also it looks like a Bengali wedding? The headgear is so familiar! 💕

Great.
Very comon in maharashtra.
Even i have seen non brahamins conducting marriages/poojas in maharshtra.
Even in marriage card , almost in all marriage cards mothers name come first.
Also i guess, MH is 1st state to add mothers name on school certificate/documents..— BHAVESH AMBEKAR (@bhavesh_ambekar) February 5, 2019
