10 Times These Bollywood Moms Were Like Our Moms On The Big Screen

Bollywood-Moms

If you look back at old Bollywood classics, then you would see there’s one integral person who basically strings together the whole movie’s plot. Really, you seriously have to think about it? Duh! It’s a no-brainer. It’s our very own Maa.

While old desi films had a real loose representation of our moms on the celluloid, there have been newer or not-so-new films, that have showcased relatable mom stuff on the silver screen. And, we totally dig that. Here are 10 Bollywood moms who were basically like our moms on the big screen.

1. Maya Awasthi (Tisca Chopra in Taare Zameen Par)

The way Maya Awasthi ran behind her Innu, was basically our moms and us. Don’t you agree?

2. Neelam Mehra (Shefali Shah In Dil Dhadakne Do)

She is the typical Indian mom, who believes in ‘sab theek hojaega’ and ‘log kya kahenge?’ too much. Rings a bell?

3. Nandini Raichand (Jaya Bachchan in Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham)

She believes in pati parmeshwar hain, believes in loving her children unconditionally and has mom-superpowers. She knows when her beloved son is around and believe it or not, some moms really know it.

4. Sumitra, Seema Acharya and Mitro (Kirron Kher in Devdas, Dostana, Rang De Basanti)

Deviating a bit from the format, here we have Kirron Kher in multiple mom roles. She’s the Nirupa Roy of present Bollywood. While Sumitra valued mann-maryada and khandaan ka naam, Seema ji was that mom who tried to be okay with her son’s homosexuality (but secretly wished and tried to cure him through baba ki meher and kala jaadu). And, Mitro was an ultimate sweetheart and that mom/friend we all need in our lives.

5. Kavita Kapoor (Dimple Kapadia in Cocktail)

Isn’t like Kavita ji, our moms after our lives to get married? To settle down? We surely can relate to that, can’t we?

6. Mrs. Arora (Dolly Ahluwalia in Vicky Donor)

She’s like the super-chilled mom our friend has and we go green with envy. She was chilled out and basically how we imagine us to be like when we are moms. 😛

7. Savitri Rathore and Queen Nirmala Devi Rathore (Ratna Pathak Shah in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Khoobsurat)

On one hand, we have a mom who did everything in her might to protect her son. And, on the other, we have a mom who’s so classy and royal that we heart her. And, both are just like various Indian moms, from two different strata of the society.

8. Reema Lagoo in Rajshri films

Since she’s played the quintessential mom ample number of times, we wouldn’t be naming just one role or film. Reema Lagoo is a typical Rajshri mom of values and if not yours, she’s the reel-life embodiment of your friend’s mom.

9. Rama Bhanot (Shabana Azmi in Neerja)

She’s THE mom. The way she worries about her daughter, the way she bears the pain, the portrayal of strength and resilience is basically what our moms are like.

10. Sarita Mehra (Supriya Pathak in Wake Up Sid)

The cute attempts she made at perfecting her English is just so many Indian moms and we just laud their efforts. We love her a little extra, though, TBH! *Reminds me of my mom*

How can we miss out Durga Singh? Her maternal powers were so strong that she defied incarnation laws. And, her bete did come!

She is ultimate Maa and we just can’t miss her out on any list. When the words Bollywood and Maa are spoken together, the first on-screen mom name that pops up in anyone’s head is Nirupa Roy.

Each in her own way is worthy of the Best Mom title and on some level, you can see your mom in each and every one of them. Haina?
