Bihar School With 2 Teachers & A Cook Stays Open To Educate A Single Underprivileged Girl

Last year, Chinnakallar’s elementary school in Valparai, Tamil Nadu, was temporarily shut down due to zero enrolment. But when a tea estate worker requested the authorities to educate her six-year-old son, they happily obliged. This heartwarming case of a school operating for a lone student is not a one-off incident.

According to News18, the Mansabigha government primary school in Bihar is attended by a single student of Class I, Jhanvi Kumari. A total of 9 pupils enrolled in the school but only she comes to study.

The school has four classrooms, a kitchen, a washroom, two teachers and a cook, reports Bihar Post. One of the teachers, Priyanka Kumari, was quoted saying,

“We are impressed with her concern for study and are devoting our full energy to impart her proper education. Though it gives us a boring feeling to teach only a single student in the classroom for seven hours every day, we are happy that she has kept the fire of education burning within her, unlike other students.”

Hindustan Times quoted Dharmaraj Paswan, the Mukhiya of Chiraili panchayat saying,

“The whole area has transformed as a market place, so there are many options of private schools for the people, so they shy away from attending the Mansabigha primary school.”

District education officer, Mustafa Hussain Mansuri added that a drive is to be launched soon to boost enrollment to the school. We hope that the drive proves to be a success and the school’s infrastructure is utilized to the fullest.
