Bhutan PM Urges People To Adopt Stray Dogs Or Plant Trees As A Gift To Their King On His B’day

With the growing climate crisis around the world, it has become the need of the hour for every nation to do their bit in saving the environment. And India is truly leading by example by promoting tree plantation and waste management in every way possible. From making students plant trees with every admission in the college to serving free food in exchange for plastic waste, India is trying hard to deal with the environmental conditions.

The latest nation to inspire the world with its innovative and impressive step towards the environment and animal welfare is Bhutan. On their King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s 40th birthday, Prime Minister Dr. Lotay Tshering urged citizens to plant trees, adopt a stray dog or indulge in waste management as a gift to the king.

The PM made the announcement at king’s birthday celebrations at Changlimithang stadium where he was present as the chief guest, reports NDTV.

“At an individual level, Prime Minister said one can choose to plant a tree and care for it, adopt a stray dog or commit to managing waste in your neighborhood. Personal commitment such as this, he said, would be the best gift for His Majesty,” he said.

The initiative will not only help Bhutan contribute their part in environment protection but will also help minimize the stray dog population in the country. The citizens have welcomed the move with open arms. Some also said that they have already adopted a couple of stray dogs following the PM’s appeal.

The Prime Minister further announced healthcare and educational programs for the citizens too. “Taking inspiration from His Majesty and re-dedicating to work towards His Majesty’s aspirations for the country, the Prime Minister announced several programs in the areas of the economy, education, health, and technology. The programs will be launched over the period of one year,” he said, reports News 18.

This certainly looks like a promising initiative. More and more nations must take inspiration from Bhutan and introduce such measures towards the betterment of animals and the environment.
