Mysuru Pre-University Board Bans Jeans & T-Shirts For Employees, Faces Massive Backlash

The Mysuru Deputy Director of Pre-university Education (DDPU) recently issued a controversial order that attracted a lot of backlash from the staff of the university. According to The Indian Express, the Deputy Director (DD), D K Srinivasa Murthy instructed employees at PU colleges to not wear jeans and t-shirts.

The principals of PU colleges were asked to bring the order in place and send an action report soon after. The circular also mentioned that Mysuru DC would come on surprise visits to ensure the implementation of the order.

The staff members who were ‘astounded’ on hearing about the bizarre circular opposed the order following which the order was withdrawn. A lecturer explained, “Initially, we even thought it was a fake WhatsApp forward, but our principal confirmed that the order was genuine and was issued by the DDPU. We expressed our displeasure on the same as we thought such instructions were unnecessary. However, later in the evening, we were informed that the circular was withdrawn.”

On questioning, the DC stated that he didn’t issue any such directions. “I came to know about it only after the DDPU issued and withdrew the circular,” Times Of India quoted him as saying.

A college lecturer hinted at the possible cause of the circular. “Last week, a DDPU employee visited the district administration office without buttoning up his shirt. This upset the officials. They asked the DDPU to ensure discipline among his staff. This may have led to the controversial order. There is no clarity why the DDPU issued it. The district administration has slammed him,” the lecturer added.
