Bahrain Woman Smashes Lord Ganesha’s Idol In A Store, Gets Booked For Hate Crime

Even though several people around the globe follow different religious beliefs, they still co-exist in harmony due to their respect and tolerance toward every religion. However, a few times we come across unruly incidents that are disrespectful to a particular faith.

Speaking of which, a woman smashed idols of the Hindu deity Lord Ganesha in a Bahrain shop recently. After a video, that shows the woman “intentionally damaging a shop and breaking religious idols” went viral, the police summoned the 54-year-old woman in the capital Manama, reports TOI.

In the video, two women can be seen standing near a display of the Lord Ganesha idols. Suddenly, one of them starts grabbing the idols and smashing them on the ground. One woman is heard saying, “Let us see who will worship these statues. Call the cops.”

The woman was charged with criminal damage and publically insulting a religious symbol. The public prosecution also issued a statement saying the woman had admitted to breaking the statues, reports The New Indian Express. She will now be tried in court.

Have a look at the entire video:

Shortly after, Khalid al-Khalifa, the advisor to the king of Bahrain and former foreign minister, said the woman’s actions were unacceptable. He tweeted, “Breaking of religious symbols is not the nature of the people of Bahrain. It is a crime of hatred and is rejected. Here, all religions, sects and people coexist.”

Many people on social media were irked by the woman’s intolerant act:

Well, while we’re glad justice was served, it is important that we respect every religion. What do you think about the entire incident? Tell us in the comments below.
