Besides religious discords, casteism, and economic disparity, our country suffers from another grave problem – racism. A huge group of citizens hailing from the 7 Northeast states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, and Mizoram – face discrimination on an everyday basis. And Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Anek’ is set against the geo-political backdrop of Northeast India.
The story seems to be centred around an undercover cop Joshua, played by the very talented Ayushmann Khurrana, who is caught between a rebellion and an uprising. He wants nothing more than peace to restore in the Northeast. The film also features Andrea Kevichüsa, J.D. Chakravarthy, Deeplina Deka, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Loitongbam Dorendra.
‘Anek’ has already hit theatres and in case you’re planning to watch the film, here are 15 Twitter reviews you should read first:

Review – #Anek
Rating – 2*/5 ⭐️⭐️Anek tells a story which is interesting but it fails badly in terms of execution, not at all meant to be a BIG SCREEN RELEASE, #AyushmannKhurrana work is excellent but story telling, screenplay & direction is POOR & VERY SLOW…..#AnekReview pic.twitter.com/aKST6Gh1KC

#Anek falls in the trappings of some of #AyushmannKhurrana films: lost between educating the viewers vs focussing on the mission at hand!
A valiant effort with many shortcomings. Sadly, It’s not a Home Run!

#Anek packs a lot in its runtime, peeling the layers off the frightfully little we know about the North-East. Bravo @anubhavsinha @ayushmannk for the thrills & diverse representation, esp Loitongbam Dorendra as a towering Tiger Sanga & Andrea Kevichusa as the lovably fierce Aido. pic.twitter.com/ucB4vBneAB

I absolutely enjoyed #Anek. The film is a punch in the gut, raw and insightful. It depicts patriotism in a distinct manner where unity is the crux. Glad Northeast Indian people get a voice through this movie. Worth the watch! 👏🏼 @ayushmannk @anubhavsinha

Thread post watching #Anek – Gripping , raw and honest – #Anek has attempted to represent the voices that have never been heard before ; It’s audacious and relentless. It successfully questions the existing bias against North-east and roots for a unified India. pic.twitter.com/bcYR9dPAj8

.@ayushmannk @anubhavsinha BRILLIANT. #anek which hits you hard and so relevant, do we really want peace or unity or are happy playing musical chairs in the name of peace and inclusivity.#AndreaKevichusa is lovely, expressing her confusion on not being accepted by her own

.#Anek makes you uncomfortable but a truth that absorbs all sides of the story is bound to be uncomfortable. What stuns you is the sheer depth of understanding that writer director @anubhavsinha displays in telling the story of North East people by emitting rare empathy.

I found it brave of @anubhavsinha to set a film in the #northeast and use local actors. See #Anek for that reason. My favourite story was that of a rural teenage child who meanders into joining insurgent group. I always like @ayushmannk and did so again.

First half of #Anek an overload of everything you have read of NE India in mainstream media. Problem being, everything has been boxed in. Two words in Manipuri, a Naga folk song, jymphong bring worn by a few women in scenes, that’s their idea of diversity. It is a MESS. More soon

#Anek successfully mangages to educate us ignorant ppl about north eastern states of India but ends up as a convoluted film which becomes too preachy for my taste. It has some poetic imagery with a lot of digs at current situation #AnekReview

#Anek by @anubhavsinha has an enduring and striking idea with a terrific plot but turns out to be middling and convulted affair. Anyways, it's high time @mangeshdhakde gets recognised for his score!

#AnekReview : ⭐⭐
Good subject but bad execution ! The powerful narrative that @anubhavsinha usually presents seems missing with this one . Neither did the film excites nor does the performances . Looks flat and lethargic at places that it will bore you to the core .

What #ANEK lacks is a narrative connect to simplify storytelling. Where it scores is in exploring layers of complexity in dealing with #NortheastIndia. I loved most cult one-liner dialogues mixing dark humour and philosophical musings. #AnekReview

Is there any role which @ayushmannk cannot do. #Anek is yet another masterpiece. @ayushmannk is a rockstar 🤩🤩

Powerful concept and a well intentioned film.. but looses grip between educating and sending it's message to the audience. It's the writing that's a bit disappointing, as a result it doesn't create an experience that gets you thinking once you leave the theatres.— Neeti Roy (@neetiroy) May 27, 2022
So, is it a yay or nay?
