If you paid attention during your History classes back in school, you would remember that Prithviraj Chauhan ascended the throne of Ajmer at a very young age and died too at a very young age. It is suggested that he became king at the age of 11 and despite his many laud worthy military conquests (war against his cousin Nagarjuna, the Chandelas, and Mohammad Ghori), he was reportedly executed after the Second Battle of Tarain.
Hence, many people online had a problem with the casting for the upcoming film ‘Prithviraj’, which has now been renamed ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ by the production house. They questioned why a 54-year-old Akshay Kumar was playing the role of a 26-year-old king.
A few weeks back, the fact that a 24-year-old Manushi Chhillar was cast alongside Akshay Kumar as Sanyogita also started a debate about how way younger actresses are cast alongside leading Bollywood men who are much older than them.
Many were of the opinion that a younger actor could have been cast for Prithviraj Chauhan’s role instead of Akshay Kumar.
The discussion also led people to talk about other films where the casting seemed a bit off, like SRK in ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ to Arjun Kapoor in ‘Panipat’.
What are your views regarding the casting for ‘Samrat Prithviraj’?
