Yet another benchmark establishing the world’s largest ‘democracy’ is the recent ban on various porn sites in India. By banning over 850 porn websites across various internet service providers across the country, the government has kicked ‘right to personal liberty’ in the crotch.

But the again, as long as there is hope and willingness to fight a problem, no one can stop you from doing anything. So, if you are depressed about being porn deprived for a couple of months (or until the government uplifts the ban), here 9 ways through which porn can be accessed even after getting banned.

1. There are other porn websites than those 850

Do your research and dig for websites that are not banned. Internet is overflowing with porn and you have not seen 99% of it. Find other portals and other popular websites. Porn on internet receives as much traffic as any other popular site (like Google or Facebook). Finding an alternative won’t be that difficult.

 

2. Change DNS Server

What is a DNS server?

A DNS server is any computer registered to join the Domain Name System. A DNS server runs special-purpose networking software, features a public IP address, and contains a database of network names and addresses for other Internet hosts – such as YouTube.com, Tech2.com and pretty much every other site on the Internet.

What does it do?

On typing any website address in your browser, your computer sends a request to the DNS server telling you the IP address for that site.

How will changing DNS server help?

Internet Service Providers remove the entries for the sites that need to be blocked to stop the access. They can choose to redirect the request to a different site or a notice page as well. A simple server change can open your connection.

How to do it?

For a typical Windows 7 setup

• Head over to the Control Panel
• Network and Internet
• Network and Sharing Center
• Change adapter settings
• Right click on your network adapter, click on Internet Protocol Version 4
• Click on Properties
• Click on the Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the DNS server of your choice
• Google’s DNS addresses are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, while OpenDNS’ are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
• Click on OK
• Reboot your PC

 

3. Browsing proxies

What are browsing proxies?

These are the services that let you use their internet connection and they bypass most of the restrictions by the Internet Service Providers or the network administrators.

4. Google cached pages

Google maintains the cached mirror of the most visited websites. When you enter anything on Google to search, you can access the cached version by clicking in the ∇ sign in the link address.

The button will lead you to the mirrored content which is refreshed quite often and it won’t be outdated. Although, this technique has a negative aspect. You won’t be able to use interactive content such as Flash and streaming media. Even sites that require login and passwords will not work.

 

5. Google Translate

This feature is accessible at http://translate.google.com where you translate text form one language to another.

Before entering the URL of the site of your choosing, choose the page language as any language except English and the translated language as English. The blocked site will be visible in English.

 

6. Virtual Private Network (VPN)

How does it work?

It works by setting up a connection channelled through your Internet Service Provider, through to a VPN service or a computer with open internet access. This will enable you to access the web freely with no restrictions on sites, keywords, services, etc.

How to set-up VPN?

Find a free, open service service that allows VPN connections
Add a new VPN connection through your Network Connections feature in Windows
Enter the authentication as set up by the person running the VPN server

Is there any other way to set-up VPN?

• Try it by running a VPN server at home and connecting to it via your mobile device, notebook or PC at work.
• Check out OpenVPN if you’re an advanced user and want to share your connection with multiple PCs and devices.

You can use other freely available VPN programs like Hamachi. Free VPN services like ProXPN and CyberGhost available on the web can also be used.

 

7. The social networks

Networks like Reddit, DailyMotion and VKontakte hold substantial amount of pornography.

 

8. Torrent FTW

I’ll agree to the fact that it is time consuming, but something is better than nothing.

 

9. Off-line porn

Porn DVDs and CDs are not as expensive as you think. You will get a good to go DVD for Rs 30 or so. If not, there are various sellers who will transfer the videos in your flash drive at cheap rates.
