Last year when Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor got married in an intimate ceremony, people called it a gush of fresh air. However, days after her wedding when Alia returned to work, she was spotted wearing a simple pink kurta set, ditching the sindoor bhari maang and chudas.
But this time, people called her out for not looking like a newly-wedded bride.
Well, this is something that has now happened to Bollywood actor Kiara Advani who got married to actor Sidharth Malhotra recently.

After her wedding, Kiara was papped at the airport wearing ripped baggy denim, a basic white tee, with a scarf wrapped around her. However, someone on Twitter didn’t like the fact that she ditched the traditional attire, didn’t sport a chuda, and missed wearing sindoor, therefore, not looking like a nai naveli dulhan.

In the now-deleted tweet, a woman took screengrabs of Kiara’s attire from a video and wrote:
“What compels a newly wed bride to dress like this? Blindly following fashion?”
On reading her tweet, editor and writer Rituparna Chatterjee was irked who then took a screengrab of the problematic tweet and responded to it saying ‘comfort’.

Soon, a lot of people came to the comments section, tired of the fact that even today, people have a problem with minding their own business and letting everyone be themselves.
This is how they reacted to this misogynistic and regressive tweet.
What does she want her to wear at the airport? Her wedding trousseau?

..and choice.

Why can’t people just mind their own business? Why do they have to comment on women’s clothes all the time?
— Katyusha (@Indian10000000) March 29, 2023
each, own!

Fashion. And her choice. But torn jeans are not more comfortable than an untorn jeans. Like not wearing a sweater/jacket over a dress or sari while attending a wedding is not. Men these days wear a tight, short coat. Same reason. And people feel entitled to comment on star-dress.

How about shifting the burden of adhering to dress code for newlyweds towards men. Let’s see how many walk around in sherwanis and dhoti kurta everywhere. Even colony aunties don’t bother about such things anymore.

@Chevane please advise us the time period during which the newly wed women should not wear torn jeans?
Any such advisory for newly wed men?— Ranjit Kumar (@RanjitOne) March 30, 2023
So as per sanskaari Bharatiya naari Shivani, she should be in a silk lehenga choli with full jadao set, mojris, parandi and Chooda, all ready to fly out … and oh yes sindoor, mangalsutra, toe rings

Does being newly wed mean you have to resemble a Christmas tree at all times???
— Shalini Nair (@ShaliniNair68) March 30, 2023
This is for real, I mean we are still defining how women should dress pre and post marriage.
— asiya khan (@asiyakhantrees) March 29, 2023
That’s too much in one tweet.. compulsion, Newly wed, bride, to dress, like this… Ever occured there’s something called a #Choice?
— Vipin Krishnan (@vipkrsna) March 29, 2023
Bride or not, she and everyone else have the right to wear whatever they want to. Calm yourself, Shivani.

So I presume you wear dhoti to all events – office, shopping for groceries, cinema etc? Because if you don't, kindly refrain from defining what's modern for women
— Rituparna Chatterjee (@MasalaBai) March 29, 2023
It is exhausting being a woman. Everybody always has some shitty opinion or the other on how they should behave https://t.co/RofEk1RPDd

What’s this silly obsession with giving gyan to women what to wear? Newly wed men wear shervani at airports? Such nonsense! https://t.co/poOAiAA7Xt

Let a woman breathe FFs ! It’s infuriating to see a woman taking a dig at another ! This is 2023. C’mon !! https://t.co/d5yE0CX4yU

I mean, seriously guys, what’s up with us? Don’t we feel violated and agitated when someone tries to teach us how we should lead our lives? Why can’t we just let everyone live and focus on more important and positive things than a celeb’s dressing?
