From Kangana Ranaut in the entertainment industry to Indra Nooyi from the corporate world, several women have stepped up to address the issue of pay parity in a workplace. In 2018, SRK admitted it’s a male-dominated industry and the fees differ between male and female actors. Now, Sonam Kapoor has shared her opinion on the matter.
In a recent interview, Sonam said,
“The pay gap is ridiculous. I can stand up to it, but then I don’t get those roles, and I’m okay with that. I can afford to do that. I realised over the past two or three years that I have no right to judge anybody. I’m privileged, so making difficult choices isn’t really f**king difficult.”
Earlier, Taapsee Pannu spoke of the pay gap between genders in the industry saying, “The men who started with me earn 3-5 times more than what I do. And the gap keeps increasing as we go in higher star category.”
Taapsee also spoke in Kareena Kapoor’s defence when the latter was criticised for hiking her fee for a role in the reimagining of the Ramayana from Sita’s point of view.
Do you believe a pay gap exists in the industry you work in? Or is it just the film industry? Tell us.
