India is gearing up to tackle Stage 3 of the coronavirus outbreak in the nation. With 873 confirmed cases and 17 deaths as of now, COVID-19 is rapidly taking its toll on the country. In fact, after a few people with no travel history tested positive for COVID-19, states like Orrisa, Noida and Madhya Pradesh among others are fearing a community outbreak.
Amid such a serious worldwide health emergency, which has brought the entire world to a halt, with over a billion people locked inside their homes, some people still fail to understand the gravity of the situation. And, they end up making a mockery out of the health crisis.
One such person, Mujeeb Mohammad who reportedly works as a software engineer with Infosys shared a picture of himself on Facebook but what irked people was the caption, reports HT. He allegedly encouraged people to sneeze in public with their mouth open and asked them to join hands in spreading the virus, reports ET.
This neither went well with the fellow social media users nor the reputed IT firm which Mujeeb was associated with. While people on Twitter and FB slammed Mujeeb for his stupid caption, Infosys initiated a preliminary enquiry to confirm Mujeeb’s identity and association with the company.
We are deeply concerned with an inappropriate post being attributed to an Infosys employee. We strongly reaffirm our commitment to responsible social-sharing. Our preliminary enquiry, and discussions with our employee suggest that this could be a case of a mistaken identity.

However, given the seriousness with which we take such matters, we are investigating this further and will also assist with any independent investigation. The company would take appropriate action based on its investigation.

After the company figured out that the ‘inappropriate post’ was made from their employee’s account and there was no case of ‘mistaken identity’, Infosys terminated the services of Mujeeb. They confirmed the same on Twitter.
Infosys has completed its investigation on the social media post by one of its employees and we believe that this is not a case of mistaken identity. (1/2)

The social media post by the employee is against Infosys’ code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee. (2/2)
