While breeds like Labradors and German Shepards make for great army and police dogs, Indie dogs are also amazing guard dogs. This is the reason why Uttarakhand police have inducted them into the force. In fact, Indie dogs are considered an asset by many others as well.
Recently, the Bengaluru Police adopted stray dogs to make them a part of the department’s canine unit, reports News18. As an experiment, the police force in Karnataka will train the Indie dogs before recruiting them in their unit.
Have a look at their training video shared by IPS Bhaskar Rao of Bengaluru police:

This initiative will not only benefit the police but will also help the stray dogs who are often harassed and tortured on streets, reports Indian Express. The official handle of Bengaluru city police also shared some videos on how they plan to execute the plan.

Many people applauded the great initiative to recruit local dogs:
Wonderful initiative. Little Pooja is bright and adorable. The trainer is also kind and patient. 👍🏼🐕

Sir excellent initiative. And wishing you all the success. Also you can train our own mudhol hound. With so much drug menace in the city canines would be of great help

This is a wonderful trendsetter. They are the most resilient and sharpest survivors. Am sure they will prove themselves.

Make in India initiative!!! Good to use local resource. @narendramodi @CMofKarnataka

However, many others also pointed out that the method of training was incorrect:
Sir while we appreciate an Indie being inducted into the prestigious Canine Unit of BCP, the method of training IS DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT. The puppy is being choked by the trainer. Positive reinforcement in training these canines should be way forward

Nice to know that the Indies are being recruited. If trained well, they can be as good as many foreign breeds.
But you need a far better trainer. One who understands the concept of balanced training and not just "only positive" training. Please avoid teaching unwanted tricks. 🙏— Obhijit Raha (@ObhijitR) March 13, 2020
Very nice 👍 but Puja seems uncomfortable with belt around neck.can be trained with more care and love with better training techniques. Nevertheless it's great initiative 👌

Can you please change the strap to a shoulder strap. Every time he is pulling it up might hurt its neck.

Sir many who saw the video, those who have great experience with dogs said "not the right way of training" please check with few well known trainers. Regards.

The Bengaluru police were open to suggestions as they wanted to give the dogs proper training. We hope that the police from other states get inspired to do the same. We are so proud of our Indie dogs!
