Bollywood celebs have always had a special place in the hearts of fans. From Big B to Alia Bhatt, fans revere and celebrate their favourite stars. But luckily, desi fans are now looking beyond the entertainment industry and seeking role models in the field of sports.
Sportspersons, especially females are finally getting their due recognition. People are moving on from just admiring celebs to taking inspiration from the lives of wonderful women like shuttler PV Sindhu, wrestler Sakshi Malik and Para-Badminton athlete Manasi Joshi who have made the country proud multiple times.
YouGov, a global public opinion and data company recently released their 2019 list of ‘World’s most admired’ people. And according to the survey, Indian Olympic boxer, Mary Kom is the ‘most admired woman’ in India.
The list was compiled as a result of a survey conducted on 42,000 people from across 41 countries with two separate categories for men and women. One of the most quoted data sources that continuously collects opinions from around the world, the survey revealed that the first woman to win six World Championships, Mary Kom topped the list for the most admired woman in India.
Mary Kom herself was surprised to have aced the chart leaving behind superstars like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. She leads the list in India with an admiration score of 10.36%. Surprisingly, Mary is the only sportswoman in the top 25.

PM Narendra Modi led the list of ‘most admired man’ in India, ahead of MS Dhoni, Ratan Tata and Barack Obama. In the global list, Michelle Obama topped the women’s category with Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie and Queen Elizabeth II closely following her in the top 10 woman’s category. Bill Gates lead the chart in the men’s category with Barack Obama, Jackie Chan and Xi Jinping making it to the top three.
We congratulate Mary Kom for her amazing feat.
