PV Sindhu Becomes India’s Highest-Paid Female Athlete Earning Over ₹39 Crores A Year!

2019 has been an amazing year for shuttler PV Sindhu. She has dominated the world of Badminton like never before this year. She recently became the first-ever Indian to claim the title of World Badminton Champion.

The face of India in international cricket, Sindhu is also the only Indian woman athlete to feature on the Forbes list of highest-paid sportswomen 2019. With total earnings of 5.5 million dollars (INR 39 Crore), she managed to grab 13th position on the list.

This makes Sindhu the highest-paid sportswoman in India. The badminton star rakes in a lump sum including the prize money, salary, bonus, and endorsements every year. Her average brand endorsement fee is reportedly about Rs 65-85 lakh per day. The fee also goes up to Rs 1.5 crore in certain cases.

Ramakrishnan R, co-founder and director of Baseline Ventures, Sindhu’s talent management firm told FE:

“At the moment, Sindhu is the highest-paid woman athlete in India and commands fees comparable to some leading cricketers.”

“We don’t want brands to suddenly get excited about Sindhu. She will choose credible and long-term partnerships that are not contingent to only her performance and wins,” he added.

Sindhu boasts a handful of big brand endorsements including a Rs 50 crore sponsorship and equipment deal with a brand. This accounts for one of the biggest endorsement deals in the Badminton world. As per a report in Forbes, Sindhu earns nearly Rs 35 crore only from brand endorsement deals annually.

PV Sindhu certainly has a long way to go and we wish her all the luck!
