45-year old Mathivanan is an auto driver and an AIADMK supporter is charging just 1 rupee for any rickshaw ride you take in his auto.
Yes, you heard that right.
He is doing it because Amma (Jayalalitha) won the elections.
He is an ardent fan of her and he is NOT charging more than a rupee for ANY fare –Â and the distance does not matter. It can be 1 km or 30 kilometers.
The charge is just 1 rupee.
You sit, give him a 1-rupee coin, and you are all set and sorted.
Over 80 people have already availed of the 1-rupee rides. They look supremely happy.
We hope other rickshaw drivers follow suit everywhere in India, and Amma keeps winning – just so the rickshaw rides don’t burn a hole in our pocket.
