We grew up reading about fairies, princesses and their ‘happily ever after’ with prince charming. But what if those perfect princesses were living in today’s world, facing real problems and struggling with failures?

Philadelphia-based photographer Shannon Dermody has explored a scenario where Disney princesses go through real world problems like drugs, alcoholism, domestic violence, rape, sex trafficking and the other dark aspects of our society. The photographer chose this theme in order to spread awareness about the less talked about problems by pushing his viewers out of their comfort zone.
