Yami Gautam Recalls Boy Recording Her Video Without Content At Her Hometown: ‘It’s So Bad’

Some might envy the lives of celebs who always get all the media attention and stay in the spotlight the moment they step out of their houses. But being a public figure isn’t easy especially when people don’t acknowledge their boundaries and respect their privacy.

Back in 2021, Anushka Sharma called out a publication for clicking photos of her and her husband Virat Kohli even after they specifically requested them not to. Recently, Bollywood condemned ETimes for zooming into Alia Bhatt’s living room.

Such incidents have happened with several Bollywood celebrities. Recently in an interview, actor Yami Gautam revealed that while she was in her hometown in Himachal Pradesh, a young boy requested a photo with her, but instead started recording her.

Hindustan Times quoted her saying:

Aaj kal koi aise le k video bana raha hoga (These days anyone can record a video anytime, without consent). Some boy came on my farm, a very young boy, a teenager who must be 19-20, and requested my staff ‘can we take a picture’. I am very open, you know, welcoming people. It’s a small town and people wanna come and visit and talk. And, I am very happy to do that.”

“I thought he is taking a picture but he was taking a video. A video of…it was so bad, and that person apparently got millions of views, he’s celebrating his vlog.”

She further said that such behavior by some encourages others to do the same. Talking about the privacy of celebs and drawing a line, Yami said:

“It may seem I’m so happy mujhe comment mil gayi (I am getting a lot of comments/publicity) but that means that has encouraged that person to do it again with somebody.”

“Which they did. They all came back home with cameras and they are taking a tour of my home. I am like ‘what is happening? Where are we going?’ You making this so normal for the next generation. Absolutely there has to be a line drawn and everything is not okay. This is not okay.”

This is an alarming issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Being a public figure doesn’t mean celebs don’t need privacy. It’s even more appealing when the media and paparazzi invade their privacy. What do you have to say about this?
