Yahoo’s Old Messenger Is Shutting Down And Here’s Why We’re Going To Remember It Forever

Yahoo is shutting down it’s old messenger app on 5th August

According to a blogpost, everyone is expected to update their messenger to the latest version by August 5th, since the old one will be completely shut down. About their new app, Yahoo states that, “This complete revamp brings users an incredibly fast, beautiful and smart way to send – and unsend – messages, photos and animated GIFs in 1:1 and group conversations,”

 

While new is great, we also still believe that old is gold and here are all the reasons we’re going to miss those Yahoo Messenger days.

 

1. We all had either a coolcat/coolstud/cooldude or a variation of that messenger name on our friend list and most of us were one of them

 

2. We’ve lied to our parents about doing homework online while spending hours on Yahoo Messenger study groups that did everything but study

 

3. We’re never going to forget our first ‘messenger love’. You started dating on chat, you loved by sending heart smileys and then broke up on chat.

 

4. Those were the days we used ‘Buzz’ rather than ‘Ping’

 

5. Everyone could see the songs you were listening to, even though you didn’t want them to and forgot to turn that feature off.

 

6. Going into random chat rooms and making friends that made the dial-up sound of our weak internet bearable.

 

7. Here’s where you learned the real meaning of ASL

 

8. The place where we learned to replace ‘Nothing’ with ‘notting’ and ‘because’ with ‘bcoz’.

It still reminds me of a time when life was carefree, love was innocent and thoughts were uninhibited.

Well, here’s all of us grown-up kids, signing out of our beloved old friend, you’ll be missed.
