Ahmedabad To House World’s Biggest Cricket Stadium With 1,10,000 Seats & Olympic-Size Pool

Cricket is the most loved sport in India. The massive turnout and enthusiasm of people at stadiums when our Men in Blue play their opponents is a view every cricket aficionado should witness at least once in their lifetime. To accommodate the high footfall and create an international level stadium, PM Modi envisioned the largest cricket stadium in the world in India when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

And after several years Indians are set to get a new stadium in Ahmedabad which will be the world’s biggest cricket stadium with the seating capacity exceeding Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground that can accommodate 100,000 spectators, reports NDTV.

The Sardar Patel Stadium, also known as Motera Stadium will surpass India’s current biggest stadium, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens (with a capacity of 66,000), suggest reports. The Sardar Patel Stadium is located in the Motera locality of Ahmedabad and will have a seating capacity of 110,000 spectators.

The construction of the new stadium was started in January 2017 and is built at a cost of around $100 million (Rs.706 crores approx.). The stadium will reportedly have more than 70 corporate boxes, four dressing rooms, a clubhouse and an Olympic-size swimming pool.

To build the new stadium with world-class infrastructure spread over 65 acres on the banks of the River Sabarmati, the old stadium was entirely brought down.

According to reports, the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera is expected to host its first match in March 2020 with an exhibition game between an Asia XI and a World XI as the inaugural game.

I am sure the colossal structure itself will become one of the tourism sites in Gujarat. Definitely a proud moment for every Indian.
