“Women Are Weaker, Smaller And Should Earn Less.” Polish MP’s Sexist Remarks Creates Uproar

Polish MEP sexist

During a rather empty plenary session on Wednesday night, Polish MEP Janusz Korwin-Mikke made extremely sexist remarks on the gender pay gap in the European Parliament. Not only did he make sexist remarks but even justified why he thinks women should be paid less.

Mr Korwin-Mikke while speaking about pay-gap, cited an example that no woman is ranked in the top 800 of a physics olympiad in Poland. He then said,

“Of course women must earn less than men because they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent, they must earn less, that’s all.”

Upon hearing this a Spanish socialist MEP Iratxe Garcia Perez frowned upon and said,

“According to what you’re saying and your theory I wouldn’t have the right to be here as a member of parliament. And I know you’re very upset and bothers you that today, women can sit in this house to represent the Europen citizens with the same right as you. I am here to defend all European women from men like you.”

This is not the first time Mr Korwin-Mikke has been in the media due to his statements. In the past, he has been fined for using racial remarks in a debate. And, in one of the old interviews of his, he said, that women’s attitudes are influenced by the men they sleep with, because semen “penetrates the tissue”.

An investigation has been opened by President Antonio Tajani and it may the “penalties range from a reprimand to a fine and temporary suspension.”
