38-YO Woman Allegedly Raped In New Delhi Courtroom, Accused Arrested

It is 2020 and the crimes against women remain the same. As women, we can’t help but ask ourselves – Is there any place where we are safe? From our own homes to even courtrooms which are supposed to be safe spaces are often infiltrated by sexual predators.

I say this because a 38-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a courtroom in New Delhi by a staff member, reports Times Now. The incident took place in Rouse Avenue court complex.

In her statement to the police, the victim alleged that her case was pending in labour court and the accused said that he would help her. When she reached the court, the man called the victim to a courtroom on the third floor, which is designated for tribunal and labour courts, and allegedly raped her.

The woman called the Police Control Room on Monday afternoon and informed them of the assault. The police immediately started working on the case. The victim underwent a medical examination. A case was registered under Section 376 (Rape) and the accused was arrested.

On further investigation, it was revealed that the accused and the victim knew each other and the man was a friend of the victim’s husband.

The Rouse Avenue court complex, where the incident took place, houses special courts for the CBI and ED.

It is truly concerning how such a crime would occur at a place of law and security!
