Woman Addicted To Eating Talcum Powder Has Spent ₹7.5 Lakhs On It In The Past 15 Years

Some people have really weird eating addictions. I have seen kids who were addicted to eating sand and chalk since school days. Years ago HuffPost reported about a woman who was addicted to eating mattresses. Another such case has recently come to light where a 44-year-old mother of five, Lisa Anderson allegedly suffers from a weird addiction.

Lisa once could not control her ‘over-whelming’ urge to taste baby powder while she was bathing her fifth son some 15 years back, reports Daily Mail. She ended up tasting a little of it back then and developed an irresistible craving for the same ever since.

Talking about her bizarre addiction, Lisa told Fox News, “I’ve always had it in the house and would douse myself with it after having a bath or shower. I’d use it on the kids after giving them a wash no problem. And then one day I remember being in the bathroom and the smell was just overpowering.”

“There was a bit of dust that had come off the top of the bottle. I had this sudden urge to eat it and I just couldn’t fight it. I just licked it off my hand and really enjoyed it. It just hit this spot,” she added.

She claims to scarf down a 200 gm bottle of baby powder every day. She needs a dose of it every 30 minutes in the day. In fact, she also wakes up 4 times in the night to eat talcum powder. “The longest I’ve been without it is two days. That was the worst time of my life. I hated it,” Lisa said. Daily Mail reports she has spent around approx Rs 7.5 lakh on talcum powder in the last 15 years.

Her addiction was a secret until her ex-partner spotted her eating talcum powder in the bathroom ten years back. He had also advised her to get medical help for the same. “I spent years not knowing what was going on or happening. But it turns out it is a condition. And I just want to let others know they are not alone,” she said.

Doctors believe that Lisa must be suffering from PICA, a psychological eating disorder characterized by an addiction to substances that are largely non-nutritive and non-edible. However, a medical diagnosis of the same is yet to be confirmed for Lisa.
