Vidya Balan SLAMS Fan Who Tried To Misbehave With Her At The Kolkata Airport

Bollywood actors have to deal with a lot when it comes to interacting with fans. Many times, fans take them for granted. There’s a prevailing thought that somehow the actors owe their fans something. Actors may be sitting with their families, enjoying a quiet lunch and all of a sudden, be ambushed by fans demanding a selfie. And most times, despite everything, the actors do oblige.

Most recently, a fan approached Vidya Balan at the Kolkata airport and asked for a selfie. Initially, she agreed but the experience soon turned sour when the fan tried to put his arm around her and touch her inappropriately. 

Almost immediately, she asked him to stop but the fan refused to listen.It got to a point where her manager had to intervene and explicitly said to the fan “Please, don’t do that.”

 

The fan removed his hand but as soon as Vidya turned to face the camera his hand was back to the same place. She finally lost her cool and screamed,

“What do you think you are doing? This is wrong.”

Even after such blatant misbehaviour, the fan asked once more, “Can I have a selfie?”

 

Now, Vidya was understandably furious.

“No you can’t, behave yourself!”

With that, Vidya stormed away from the fan.

 

When asked about the troubling incident later, here’s what she had to say:

“When a stranger puts an arm around you, be it a man or a woman you get uncomfortable because they are intruding into your personal space. We are public figures, not public property.”

Actors are not public property and they do not hold some sort of binding obligation towards their fans. They are people too. And just like everyone else, they have a right to privacy and personal space. Being a fan in no way gives you the right to invade a celebrity’s personal space. Let’s stop treating celebrities like merchandise that you may handle as you like.

Would you treat a girl from your neighbourhood this way if you met her at the airport? Then why treat celebrities differently? Think about it.
