UP Teacher Earns ₹1 Crore In A Year By Working At 25 Schools Simultaneously

A teacher from Uttar Pradesh named Anamika Shukla managed to make the kind of money many can only dream of. It is usually believed that to earn a lump sum, one needs to have multiple sources of income. And multiple sources did she have, only they were illegal.

According to a report by TOI, the UP teacher ‘earned’ Rs 1 crore in 13 months by teaching in 25 schools simultaneously.

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya is a residential school for girls from weaker sections and teachers are hired on a contract basis. Each district in UP has a Kasturba Gandhi school and the teachers are paid Rs 30,000 a month.

Anamika Shukla, who was working as a full-time science teacher in Rae Bareli’s KGBV, was simultaneously working as a teacher in multiple schools in others districts such as Ambedkar Nagar, Baghpat, Aligarh, Saharanpur and Prayagraj.

Her forgery came to light when KGBV was creating a database of all the teachers, reports News18. The database included the teachers’ personal records, date of joining, and promotion. Once the database was uploaded, it was found that Anamika Shukla was listed in 25 schools.

The Director of the school said, “It is surprising that the teacher, Anamika Shukla, was able to do this despite real-time monitoring of teachers’ attendance in UP primary schools. How can a teacher mark her presence at several places even when they are supposed to mark their attendance online on the Prerna portal? It needs a thorough probe.”

According to the records, the teacher was “working” in these 25 schools for over a year and managed to withdraw salaries which amounted to Rs 1 crore till February 2020. She has now gone incommunicado and is being searched by officials in various districts.

“A notice was issued to her but she did not report back. Her salary was immediately stopped,” said the official.
